DOMAINE STEPHANE MAGNIEN 2019 EN PRIMEUR
Located in Morey-Saint-Denis, this domaine produces village and premier cru wines in Morey and Chambolle-Musigny, as well as two grands crus, a Clos-Saint-Denis and a Charmes-Chambertin. From its 4.5ha of domaine-owned vineyards, Stephane also vinifies some Bourgogne Pinot Noir and a Passetoutgrain, with a good proportion of old clone Pinot Tordu.
CÔTEAUX BOURGUIGNON PUR PINOT
This wine provides almost instant pleasure. Crunchy red fruits and classic aromas of pinot noir just jump out of the glass. With freshness and vibrancy, opening several bottles of this would be very easy indeed! A wonderful daily drinking wine.

MOREY SAINT DENIS GRAINS FINS
Floral notes, sweet spice, dark fruit as well as some forest aromas dominate the nose. The palate is balanced, with a refreshing acidity far more present than the nose would suggest. An elegant Morey, with the usual earthy notes balanced by ripe tannins and flavours of ripe dark cherry. A very appealing wine that will be delicious young but will equally reward those who wait.

MOREY SAINT DENIS LES FACONNIÈRES 1ER CRU
Whilst the colour of this cuvée is lighter than the Grains Fins, the aromas are deeper and darker. Game, earth, leather and dark fruits are what come first, but with aeration are followed by intriguing hints of black truffle. The palate is opulent with black cherry, wild raspberry, a touch of wet red rose petals. The tannins are sweet and rich, supported by a well-defined acidity. No hurry to drink this wine.

CHAMBOLLE-MUSIGNY LES SENTIERS 1ER CRU
This wine’s dark robe is a little deceptive, as the nose is dominated by aromas of red fruit, some sweet spice and delicate floral notes. Upon tasting, you are struck both by the wine’s elegance and softness. The tannins are coated, the finish is long, and really does possess the necessary energy and flesh to age well.

CLOS SAINT DENIS GRAND CRU
This is a real step up from the 1er cru in both elegance and complexity. What strikes me in 2019 is the opulence of the wines and the ripeness of the tannins. The Clos Saint Denis is inviting from the first sniff. Intense red fruits come first, supported by mineral notes and the sweetness of cinnamon. On the palate, the structure is well defined and the aromas are a blend of current, black cherry, lifted by crushed rose petals. There are touches of black tea, game and aromas of forest. A powerful wine, lively, built to age.
