Explore Oregon with Saffron Fields
Oregon, with the same latitude as burgundy is not any more a hidden gem in the world of wine. In the last decade, the region has seen several Burgundian buying vineyards there to try their skills on Oregon Pinot and Chardonnay.
Sanjeev Lahoti and Angela Summers came to Oregon for the love of pinot noir. While Sanjeev had travelled to Oregon on business many times, it was Angela’s first visit in 2003 that took them to the hillside of a grass seed farm in Yamhill. Looking out over the Coast Range and surrounding vineyards, they made the decision to become grape farmers and began planting a vineyard in 2007.
Tony Rynders, one of the highly acclaimed winemakers in America from Domaine Serene bought the entire first harvest of Saffron Fields Vineyard in 2009. With vintage 2010, he had left his previous job to become Saffron Fields resident winemaker. A position he is still having today while the wines gain more recognition.

Chardonnay Yamhill-Carlton Saffron Fields Vineyard 2016
Wine Enthusiast 92 points
“Just a single Chardonnay was made in 2016, and it’s a gem. Done in a racy crystalline mineral-driven style, it saw just 20% new French oak, which, as it turns out, was plenty. Honeycrisp apple, tangerine and lemon-rind flavours are lightly framed with pretty barrel toast.” – PAUL GREGUTT

Pinot Noir Saffron Fields Vineyard 2015
Wine Enthusiast 92 points
“Winemaker Tony Rynders loads it with appealing cinnamon, caramel and milk chocolate components from aging in half new French oak. This is all nicely integrated into a base of fresh raspberry fruit. Tasty and ready for near-term drinking.” – PAUL GREGUTT
Pale to medium ruby-purple, the 2015 Pinot Noir Yamhill-Carlton is scented of crushed black cherries and blueberries with hints of forest floor, cola and wood smoke. Medium-bodied with grainy tannins and juicy acidity, it fills the mouth with warm fruits, finishing long and spicy. 100% Pinot Noir.
