L'AURAGE & ROC DE CAMBES

“Quite frankly, Roc de Cambes takes
the Côtes de Bourg to a whole new level.”
Antonio Galloni, 2021

We are delighted to be the appointed exclusive agent in Singapore, of the wines of the Mitjavile family. Known for Tertre Roteboeuf in St-Emilion, François Mitjavile alongside his daughter Nina and son Louis, makes two other outstanding wines at their properties Roc de Cambes and L’Aurage.
Dubbed as the junior Tertre Rôteboeuf, Roc de Cambes, just south of St-Emilion, was purchased in 1988. The name was shortened to Roc de Cambes in 1994. The plantings here are 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Domaine de l’Aurage is owned by François and Miloute Mitjavile’s extremely talented son, Louis, and his wife, Caroline. The picturesque vineyards of Castillon-Côtes de Bordeaux lie on an outcrop of the Saint-Émilion limestone ridge and represent some of the best value in Bordeaux. Merlot accounts for almost the entirety of the 15 hectares, with diminishing amounts (currently 5%) of Cabernet Franc. 2007 was the first vintage of l’Aurage.
Roc de Cambes and l’Aurage each have their unique personalities, as you would expect from their varied terroirs, in Bourg and Castillon respectively. However, there is a familiar resemblance at work here – a Mitjavile DNA, if you like. As at Tertre Roteboeuf, both Roc de Cambes and l’Aurage makes just one wine.

Roc de Cambes 2012
.

“Magnum. Tasted blind. Dark with some evolution at the rim. Really interesting evolution on the nose. Lots of sweet fruit, melded and in a glorious bouquet. Great balance. Dry, rich and powdery tannins on the end but definitely evolved and approachable. Long. Really ready to broach.” – Jancis Robinson, Nov 2018
“A dark, imposing wine, the 2012 Roc des Cambes is distinctly dark and brooding. Black cherries, smoke, licorice, tar and dark spices fleshed. Vertical in style and quite structured, the 2012 could use another few years in bottle to fully come together, which will also help the chewy tannins to integrate a bit more fully. Roc des Cambes is 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Malbec that spend 18 months in 100% new French oak.” – Antonio Galloni, Jan 2016

L’Aurage 2013

“Seems to be the current vintage in the UK. Looks more mature than the 2012, a little more brick in the colour. The sweetness on the nose is the combination of new oak and dark fruit. Dry and a bit lean on the palate but scented. Quite tannic but should come round with a little longer in bottle, even if it does not achieve the seductive quality of some of the other vintages.” – Julia Harding MW, Nov 2017
