THE MITJAVILE FAMILY
“That may sound like a contradiction but if anyone can successfully bring together the hedonistic and the precise, it is the Mitjavile family.”
Guy Seddon, May 2021

Tertre Roteboeuf is today definitely one of the cult wineries of Saint-Emilion. Owned by Francois Mitjavile, Tertre Roteboeuf has been producing outstanding wines since 1978 on a 6-hectare vineyard planted with 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc.
Francois Mitjavile alongside his daughter Nina and son Louis, also makes two other outstanding wines at their properties Roc de Cambes and Domaine de l’Aurage.
Roc de Cambes in Cote de Bourg was purchased in 1988, and has since been dubbed the junior Tertre Roteboeuf., with plantings of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Domaine de l’Aurage is owned by Francois’ extremely talented son Louis “Lou Lou”, and his wife Caroline, with 2007 as the first vintage. The picturesque vineyards of Castillon-Cotes de Bordeaux lie on an outcrop of the Saint-Emilion limestone ridge and represent some of the best value in Bordeaux. Merlot accounts almost the entirely of the 15 hectare plantings.
3 wines, each with their own unique personalities from their varied terroirs, but brought together by the hands of an established wine family.

THE WINE
L’AURAGE 2013
A gorgeous, deep plum-ruby in colour, velvet-textured, this presents profound toasted oak character on the nose, allied to plump dark fruit, vibrant, primary berried notes, savoury intrigue, leather and spice. The vibrant fresh focus is due in part to the malolactic not having finished but texturally this is luscious, rounded, rich and will become more and more integrated during élevage – beautifully handled – bravo Louis.
Corney & Barrow Score 16.5 – 17
Recommended drinking from 2017 – 2025
L’AURAGE 2014
Deep plum purple in colour, this wine presents a lovely freshness, vivacity and bright fruit on the nose, with red berry intensity and focus. The palate is extraordinarily pure, richly flavoured and rounded, with good, red fruit concentration, allied to underlying power, within a context which is tender, smooth and silky.
Corney & Barrow Score 17.5
Recommended drinking from 2018 – 2025+
L’AURAGE 2015
Glittering jet-ruby with a tight violet rim, this is both very fresh and spicy. Really fulsome fruit comes through on the nose and palate, cherries both fresh and in warm compote form. Opulent and silk-textured this is nonetheless pure and breezy with super-fine, beautifully-integrated tannins – a lovely texture, really juicy, this is a smile-inducing wine.
Corney & Barrow Score 18
Recommended drinking from 2018 – 2026
ROC DE CAMBES 2012
Dark plum colour, this has a markedly different personality on the nose, higher toned with candied blueberry and red fruits, The palate sets up its stall with no holds barred, luscious, pure red and black fruit laced with oak and layered with vanilla cream. Supple, ripe and accessible there is also an underlying, firm structure, fruit-coated and well-integrated, as well as a freshness in the balance which will serve well during élevage.
Corney & Barrow Score 18
Recommended drinking from 2018 – 2028
ROC DE CAMBES 2014
Deep purple to a firm bright cherry rim, this initially presents a clearly defined pain aux raisins note, with real crème pâtissière aromatics, toast, caramel, fruit and vanillin. Red and darkerfruits are both prominent, the red berries perhaps having the edge, initially.
Corney & Barrow Score 18-18.5
Recommended drinking from 2017 – 2028+
TERTRE ROTEBOEUF 2017
Violets and that trademark degraded red berry fruit on the nose, detailed by thyme, rosemary and sweet spices, then dark rocky minerality and bitter chocolate. The palate is brightly red-fruited, dense and impressively charged, with fine chalky nuance emerging as it progresses. The initial sense of fruit-driven power recedes towards the back-palate, which has a quiet focus at its core and a mineral bedrock which speaks of the vineyard’s cool clay-limestone soils. This is being aged in 100% new oak but as always, it is quite beautifully, harmoniously integrated.
Corney & Barrow Score 18.5
Recommended drinking from 2025 – 2045
